The Cougars (2-1) won the first two games before dropping the series finale, outscoring the Bulldogs 32-18 over the entirety of the series.

In the season opener, Charleston starting pitcher Bailey Ober notched a quality start while striking out nine. Charleston sophomore Logan McRae led the way offensively with four hits in rout to a 9-3 victory.

Game two brought more hot hitting from McRae, who hit a home run in a 15-6 win for the Cougars.

In game three, the Cougars nearly rallied from a four run eighth inning deficit only to lose, 9-8.

Although it was not enough to overcome the deficit, McRae’s two run homer in the eighth capped off an amazing weekend. McRae finished the weekend hitting a robust .777 (7-9) with nine runs batted in, while also doubling his home run total from last season in one series.

Coming off a 31-26-1 season in the first season under head coach Matt Heath, the Cougars are positioned for a great campaign after a quick start in Athens.

The Cougars next game is on the road against Coastal Carolina (Feb. 22) before returning to Patriots Point for a weekend series against Cincinatti.
