With the loss, he will have to wait until Saturday, Oct. 10 to go for 300th when the College host James Madison (7 pm.). Lundy ranks fifth among active head coaches with 431 career wins.

“I think tonight might have been one of the best first halves we played all season,” said head coach Ralph Lundy. “I think we had ten shots and we pressured them well but we just didn’t finish. We had chances to score and we didn’t put them away. We played in their half of the field most of the night but just couldn’t find the back of the net of any of our opportunities. They capitalized on their opportunities and we didn’t, which was the difference in the game.”

The Cougars tallied a 10-3 shot advantage in the first half and controlled the pace of play but headed into the break down 1-0. In the 18th minute, Delaware’s Ben Sampson one-timed a cross from Soren Frost to beat Kevin Shields.

Charleston’s hope at a comeback was all but dashed in the 49th minute, when a soft foul in the box awarded Delaware a penalty kick. Jaime Martinez doubled their lead on his second successful penalty of the year.

Though the Cougars were held scoreless, they tallied a season-high 19 shots in the loss. Junior midfielder Adan Noel led the College with ten shots with five on goal. Delaware goalkeeper Todd Morton finished the game with an eight save shutout.

Additionally, they are off to their best start to the conference season since joining the CAA in 2013. The strength of their early season results has brought them to 65th in the most recent RPI ranking.
