For students interested in on-campus meal options, College of Charleston made some big changes for the 2013-2014 school year, including new cafeteria hours for each dining hall, additional late night hours, a larger variety of meal choices and plans for a new Starbucks in Addlestone Library.
New weekend hours for City Bistro and Liberty Fresh Food Company dining halls took effect at the beginning of the school year. In recent years, both dining halls remained open all weekend. Liberty now closes on Friday at 2:30 p.m. and remains closed until Sunday. City Bistro operates regularly on Friday and Saturday but then closes for the day on Sunday.
This change allows Dining Services to allocate more resources into the new late night options available at City Bistro. “Last year we conducted numerous surveys that were telling us that students wanted late night meal swipe options,” said Brittany Collins, the Marketing Manager for Dining Services, in a recent statement.
“We ran a limited time offer late night meal swipe at the… Pizza window… This program had tremendous success.” Collins also stated that “the number of students that dined in each location for breakfast each day were numbers that could be handled in one location.”
The late night swipe option is now available at the City Bistro take-out window from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m.
Although Dining Services reduced the hours of operation, they increased the number of menu options at both locations. On-campus diners now have more dishes to choose from at each cafeteria. “You’re not imagining things,” Collins said.
New menus at Liberty dining hall “are filled with more variety and creativity than [students] have seen in the past… [We] hosted a national Fresh Food Company training [this summer], where chefs from all over the country came to train here with our chefs and learn new recipes. We walked away from that training with a new passion for creativity with our menus,” Collins said.
Students who love the extra caffeine of a Starbucks cup of coffee are in luck. Next year, Java City in Addlestone Library will be replaced with a Starbucks. So get ready to “caf-up” before heading in for an all-night study session.
